Why We're Hosting This
As fellows of NYC's premier business development programs, Joselyn through both ContractHER and Expand-U, and David through Expand-U, we've experienced firsthand the value of structured training, procurement strategy, and capacity building designed specifically for MWBE-certified businesses.
One of the most important lessons we've learned through these programs is that collaboration and subcontracting are essential to scaling. But we've also realized that putting those strategies into practice requires intentional space—time to connect face-to-face, explore partnership opportunities, and build the peer relationships that turn strategy into action.
This event creates that space.
We're bringing together MWBE-certified colleagues to do what we're being equipped for: collaborate, strategize together, identify real subcontracting opportunities, and strengthen the networks that sustain us beyond any single cohort or contract.
Because certification opens doors. Training sharpens the tools. But it's connection, collaboration, and follow-through that turn opportunity into outcome.

In 2017, Aidmary Ruiz, a young Dominican entrepreneur, emigrated to the United States because her life took an unexpected turn when her daughter, Alyssa, was born with Down syndrome. Determined to provide the best opportunities for her daughter, Aidmary emigrated in search of a better future.
In her new home, Aidmary encountered challenges and opportunities. Inspired by her cousin, who owned a successful restaurant, Aidmary decided to follow in her footsteps into the food industry. In 2019, with a lot of determination and the support of her family, she opened her first food business. She partnered with a talented Mexican chef fusing the best of Dominican and Mexican cuisine.
The restaurant, “Rinconcito Domex” , originally called Rinconcito Mix , quickly gained popularity for its authentic and delicious combination of flavors. Aidmary’s dedication to quality and customer service was evident, and the restaurant became a landmark in the local community.
My story is a testament to the power of love and determination, proving that with hard work and dedication, it is possible to overcome any obstacle and achieve your biggest dreams.
